Embracing Autonomy: The Power of a Debt-Free Life

Writing this from a tropical paradise in the East, I’m reflecting on the importance of embracing your choice, autonomy, and the ability to negotiate your life. For me, achieving true freedom starts with eliminating obligations like debt. These days, I don’t borrow money for anything, finance, or go into debt at all. In the past, I did, but I realized there’s nothing worth my autonomy, not even a house.

It’s fascinating how many people are caught in a cycle of borrowing, living life on a financial treadmill. Debt can feel like a form of modern-day slavery, binding folks to student loans, credit card bills, and mortgages. I want to encourage others to break free from this borrowed existence and pursue their dreams.

Living a life of freedom is essential. The longer you stay in any place or behavior—like a borrowed life—the harder it becomes to break away from that environment or financial mindset. It’s called commitment, and it can trap you.

Traveling to about 20 countries over the past decade has enriched my life in ways I never expected. I thrive on changing environments, even though change can be quite uncomfortable for me. I’ve learned that life can be sustainable—meaning I can sustain my existence with cash, without needing a loan or credit card. Embrace your choice, autonomy, and the ability to negotiate your life.

"The borrower is slave to the lender." — Proverbs 22:7
